Jim Hebert
In 1989, Jim took a chance on the burgeoning industry of payroll and tax services, which at that time was a paper-based endeavor focused exclusively on the processing of client payrolls and their timely physical delivery. Over the years, he oversaw the building of a Software Development team which led to the launch of the Checkwriters platform. Three decades later, the organization he founded is a national player in the field of Human Resources technology, which delivers an online platform and hands-on, accessible service to thousands of clients across the United States. Prior to founding Checkwriters, Jim served as a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. military, 82nd Airborne from 1981-1985.
Peter Whelan

Peter Whelan
Pete joined Checkwriters in 1993 as our first full-time Sales Account Executive and eventually took over day-to-day management of the Sales team. He now serves as Executive Vice President. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, the General Electric Company Financial Management Program, and is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). Pete enjoys, in no particular order: golf, Fighting Irish football, helping people and companies to succeed and achieve their best, and anyone with a good sense of humor.

Peg joined Checkwriters in 1997 and has spent the years since recruiting and developing a strong, expert Finance Department as Chief Financial Officer for Checkwriters and its affiliates. She is a graduate of Western New England College and worked in public accounting for 12 years. Since 1987, Peg has been a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and Massachusetts Society of CPAs (MSCPA). She is the mother of two adult children and now enjoys her spare time traveling to warm climates and visiting wineries and breweries in New England and beyond.

Steve joined Checkwriters in 2008, where he serves as Director of Software Development. He has successfully led that department in building a modern, scalable platform while deploying hundreds of features and services as part of the Checkwriters Payroll and Human Resources product. Steve is a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) and Certified Scrum Master (CSM).

Nancy has spent her career managing and building customer service teams and working to ensure positive client experiences. She joined Checkwriters in 2003, where she serves as the Operations Manager. In this role, she leads a dynamic team of junior managers and account specialists responsible for fielding client inquiries, addressing satisfaction and concerns, processing payrolls, and training new employees.

Sharon joined Checkwriters in 2008 in the Tax Department, but soon took on responsibility for all payroll conversions and was instrumental in building the Implementation Team. She became Implementation Manager in 2015, where she is responsible for creating new client accounts and ensuring company and employee information is transferred to Checkwriters in an accurate and timely manner. Sharon is Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)-certified and works to ensure that the overriding focus of her department is providing clients with a positive onboarding experience.

Tracy Fleming
Tracy joined Checkwriters in 2012 following a successful career in the banking industry, where that industry knowledge made her an excellent addition to Checkwriters’ leadership. In her role as Director of Client Experience, Tracy works with her team to ensure each new customer receives exceptional support from kick-off to go-live, and that they continue to have access to professional and knowledgeable service and resources throughout their time as a Checkwriters client. Tracy is a proud mother of two, but also a lover of shoes, hiking, kayaking, gardening, and attending concerts with her husband.

James joined Checkwriters in 2014 as a Senior Sales Account Executive. His success in building teams and developing new sales talent led to his assuming a leadership role of Sales Manager. Through his prior industry experience, James saw how the one-size-fits-all approach to Payroll and HR software and services could be drastically improved. This informs both his leadership of the Checkwriters’ national Sales Team and in his presentation of creative payroll, attendance, and human resource solutions for new and prospective clients.
Meghan Mancino

Meghan Mancino
Meghan joined Checkwriters in 2017 as a Tax Specialist and currently serves as the Tax Manager. As Tax Manager, she is responsible for the Tax Department’s timely filing of payroll tax returns and remittance of tax payments to the IRS, and oversees the department’s tax responsibilities on behalf of Checkwriters clients in all 50 states plus the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. In addition, her department is responsible for the processing and distribution of W-2s, submittal of amended tax returns and corrected W-2s, and ensuring new taxes, such as Paid Family and Medical Leave, are added to clients when applicable by state. Before joining Checkwriters, she worked in human resources, primarily with payroll and benefits and employee onboarding. Meghan is Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)-certified through the American Payroll Association (APA).

Dakota joined Checkwriters in 2013, where he worked in the Sales and Marketing departments and currently serves as Chief Marketing Officer. As CMO, he is responsible for the company’s national brand and marketing, corporate communications, and strategic marketing partnerships. Before joining Checkwriters, he worked in communications in the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C. He lives with his wife and children in Massachusetts.

Megan joined Checkwriters in 2020 and is responsible for reviewing, revising, and implementing internal policies of the company, advising on human resource, employment, and labor matters, and monitoring and publishing state and federal legal updates to the Checkwriters News and Compliance Center for distribution to thousands of clients around the country. Before joining Checkwriters, Megan served as a judicial law clerk for the justices of the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court performing legal research and writing, followed by private practice in Cape Cod. She lives with her husband and children in South Carolina.

Felicia joined Checkwriters in 2020, where she serves as the Human Resources Manager. Her particular areas of focus include hiring, benefits administration, and the development and implementation of company policies in conjunction with the Checkwriters Compliance Team. She is a member of both our ACA Team and ERC Team where she assists clients on the intricacies of those programs, requirements, and filings. Felicia holds a Masters in Business Administration and is based in Massachusetts, where she lives with her husband and two children.

Sam joined checkwriters in early 2019, and previously oversaw payroll processing for a family owned business. She has a degree in Business from Springfield Technical Community College and is Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)-certified through the American Payroll Association (APA). Sam leads a team of dedicated client support specialists who are responsible for all client payroll processing, addressing any questions and concerns, and staying up to date on evolving payroll and compliance issues.

Youssef joined Checkwriters in 2021 as the Director of IT Infrastructure. Since joining the team he has provided his expertise in the design, implementation, operation, and management of the company’s on-premise and cloud IT infrastructure as well as implementing permanent solutions to ease and improve the day-to-day operations within the organization. Youssef brings 15 years of experience in the field of information technology. He is Cisco-certified in network administration and has worked in various industries including the medical, biotech, and IT sectors.

Andrew joined Checkwriters in 2022 as Chief Technology Officer. Bringing over a decade of software experience, he is passionate about the power of technology and the limitless possibilities it can offer. Focused on technology driven operational leadership, digital transformation and team building, Andrew works to consistently improve development and build next generation applications to enable Checkwriters to deliver the best possible products and services to its customers. A graduate of The George Washington University, Andrew served as a former US Naval Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer. He is a huge foodie and wine aficionado, holding a WSET Level 2 certification in wine. A proud father of two kids, Andrew is also very active in the local community.
